Great product. Wonderful transaction. Speedy delivery. Nicely packed in mint condition. Couldn't ask for a better deal.
The remote is fully programmable to control every component you can think of except an xbox. It's really easy to get caught up in all the marketing of these things, but the reality is most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two in a double blind test. They are very nice though. There are so many options on this thing that I didn't even know or think about. I recently bought this from Newegg for 180 dollars and free shipping (sorry amazon), but I wanted to post a review here because it's in large part to the reviews on amazon that I bought it.I have it hooked up to two Paradigm 3se Mk3s and it sounds great, more than enough power. I'd guess at a full band rating it would be about 70-75 watts per channel, which if you're running quality speakers is plenty. The thing is most people don't need these features, don't know how to take advantage of them, or wouldn't notice them anyway. That's what you're paying for in the really expensive receivers anyway, lots of features.
Just having these two speakers with PL 2 turned on adds sooo much to the movie. That's not a problem because my TV is right next to the receiver so running video through it would only mean additional cables. In fact I limited how high the volume would go so someone doesn't crank it super high at a party and ruin the speakers. My setup is primarily a stereo one, but I do run an optical audio cable through it from dvd for movies. I did a lot of research before before buying so I knew about the hdmi "issue". People, expect this on any receiver below 400-500 bucks. If I had the space I'd think about a surround setup. It also very solid feeling and looks better than a lot of the other receivers in this category.
(my sub is powerd and has two back speaker ports that run off the subs power) all in all i could not be any happier with my choice to get this. this little amp works great. it is more them powerful enough for me and it sounds great. it was in exspensive anf puts out alot of power. i have mine hooked up to my TV and i have 6 speakers and a sub running off of this. the annena that comes with is is not really worth a darn if you do not get good reception where you are at. i just liked mine to my tv antenna and it works great now.
(before shipping), it feels like a much more expensive receiver. I've never had a universal remote that captured the first code and was able to make it work until this one. Even though it only cost be [.]. Even though this is at the bottom of Yamaha's surround receiver line, it's a powerful, programmable unit, which delivers beautiful sound to all of my speakers. Overall, a fine machine, and for the price, a real find. Let me say that again.ON THE FIRST TRY.
I was able to program the TV and my DVD player into that remote, both ON THE FIRST TRY.
It's fairly heavy, the volume knob is tight and smooth, and the buttons press like a more luxurious machine.
I pass everything through the receiver, and it controls almost my entire entertainment setup with this remote.
Surround modes are excellent, and subwoofer output can be as powerful or a subtle as you want it.
So now, instead of 4 remotes (tv, dvd, cable box, receiver), I'm down to 2, as I have eliminated the TV and DVD remotes.those work from the Yamaha remote.
But what really got me loving this thing was the REMOTE.
Unlike many universals, this one actually works.
Amazing.Minor complaints are the HDMI, which passes only video, not audio.but I'm working with Component and RCA cables, and everything works beautifully, so that doesn't affect me.
Just make sure you read the instructions thoroughly before diving into it.
I was immediately aware of a clear natural sound that I would expect from a much more expensive machine.
